I'm getting an error when I try to go to safe mode, how do I fix this?

I know how to choose to boot in safe mode, but when I do, words scroll all across the screen. They seem to be something in some programming language, but once its done scrolling, the computer locks up and I must manually shutdown. I don't know if it's related, but my computer also locks up when I try to enter Norton AntiVirus. Any suggestions? Please?

Try a repair on the operating system

If you dont know how to do this here is how....

Insert your windows CD and then goto the screen and act like your going to install windows, but instead of selecting install, select the repair option
