I got a bad virus.... at least i think its a virus?
I have windows vista and Trend Microsoft anti virus. i was on msn messanger and i got this instant message from my friend that said "hey is this you? and it had a link" well i opened it and i guess at the same time he got the same one.. he opened it also . my antivirus caught it. i deleted one virus attached to it, ran a virus scan and it found two more. i have to get my windows updated in order to fix it. is there any way to manually delet this i know the exact file location but not how to get there

Yeah, chalk that up as a learning experience. NEVER open a link you aren't 100% sure about! Especially in e-mail! I use AVG Free Antivirus. The ones they pack in with your PC are always bullshit. No, you can't manually delete them, believe me, I asked the same question once. The bastards attach themselves to vital files a lot that will make your PC unusable without reformatting the entire PC. Your best bet is to try to salvage all of the stuff you want to keep (since you can't get rid of the virus? Quarantine isn't possible?) and start from square one. If it was easy, hackers wouldn't have so much damn fun tormenting unseen targets, now would they?
Why do you think you have to update Windows to fix it? Try a different Antivirus program! Want to know a secret? Use a bittorrent downloader like BitComet to find a new one! If you can't delete the file because it is necessary, you should have a quarantine option. Use a virus definition page to determine the threat level. If you can't do either, well... keep your computer better protected against spyware and use your firewall in the future! It's overwhelming when it first happens but don't let people blow it out of proportion! There are always ways of protecting your PC, just learn them little by little and remember you always have options!
