Need Help.... Antivirus & spyware (Infections)?

Just put my daughters computer on the internet. I thought it had antivirus, however had obviously expired. Yes i believe we got some viruses a worm and not shaw what else. Installed AVG Free Edition & ran a scan & picked up about six viruses that are now in the Vault. Are there other things i should do because i don't think it is running 100%. I was getting all these text boxes opening from the tool bar, system security alert download now. However every time i would try the page could not be displayed. Seriously need some help & the programs i require need to be FREE as it is only my daughters computer. Although i want to get it cleaned up for her as we all know it's painfull when this crap gets in. Please help a desperate father.

Superantispyware is a good program and remember to update it before scanning. A scan may take 45mins.

it takes 2 hours or more so once it starts to scan (go to bed etc)
