Question Details: hey i was wondering is using software to download music,videos and pictures legal? because i was planning on downloading these softwares..especially i have a software called Limewire and bitcomet and i was wondering whether you could get arrested for using such softwae

I live in Canada,in the province of ON if that helps and i need to know fast if this is legal

and what do you mean when ppl say "restricted data" or copy-righted date

I dont understand..my sister has been downloading music from Ares since weeks and i am very scared..please help me out..

Using anything, including Limewire (and even the paid version, since you're paying for network access instead of material) to download or share data that's under copyright (music, movies, commercial software etc) is illegal. It's copyright infringement and carries a fine of between $750.00 and $150,000.00 for each file illegally downloaded. The exact amount is determined by the courts. There is also the possibility of criminal charges and prison time, but at this point people are mostly facing lawsuits as opposed to criminal charges.
