How I can remove contagious files from my Dell PC?

I have McAffee Security 2007 edition and I'd like to know if it's there. My family's thinking about getting Windows Vista for this PC and there are some contagious files with the Windows XP. If there's a way to do it, then tell me how in the simplest and least technical lingo. Thanks.

Do your entire scanning. Once finished, delete all the infected files.|||You scan your system with Antivirus with latest virsus definitions.

Once you finish scanning run the disk clean up which will help you to delete all unnecessary files.

these steps will be enough.|||Viruses can spread and multiply , dont download any programs from old system , if you look on my 'computer' then click harddrive logo you should find your harddrive directory and the McAffee program ,all in its own file.
