My opinion on Norton and McAfee is they suck. They are system resource hogs meaning they slow down your computer cause they need a lot of memory to run. I use an antivirus program called Nod32 from Eset. I like it cause it uses little system resources and so far I have not had ANY virus's found on my computer. Another one I liked is Windows Onecare but didn't care for the yearly subscription but it does a good job although it is also a hog that slows down a computer. I have not tried any of the free programs that are available and widely used.
Just remember, any anti virus program will generally only catch about 50%-70% of the virus's. Most are not updated in time to catch the newest virus's. So you still need to be careful.
I also like Winows Defender which is free for spyware removal. I have not seen any ONE program besides Onecare that does a good job doing all that I would want it to.

nortons has been in the business for many years, there 2007 version is suspose to run with less power, i would choose nortons between the two. neither are free. and both are hard to remove should you want to.|||For a novice user, anything that is easy to use is good. I personally like Zonelab sucurity system if you don't mind paying for it.
My opinion:
Norton is slow, slow , slow....
McAffee...not familiar with this product, maybe a bit better than norton :P|||windows onecare,it does all the work for you, ihave had it 2 years and not had a prob yet|||I've dealt with a lot of them out there and I find that Windows works better with McAfee Internet Security.|||Good Morning Jay!
I don't have an ready answer for you...but I seem to remember "Consumer Reports" doing some study on that very question ...less than a year ago. I would check an Consumer Report Index. ...have a good day! Steve
